Mitigation of climate change
Although we can no longer reverse climate change, it is still beneficial to slow it down. The international community has decided to try and limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius in order to keep the impacts of climate change at a tolerable level and to avoid catastrophic changes. Limiting the emissions of greenhouse gases is the key factor in mitigation, but in order for it to succeed, measures by all actors in society are needed.
Information on mitigation of climate change
Carbon sinks in Finland
In Finland forests are an important carbon sink but coniferous forests can also change from sinks to carbon sources.
Climate impacts of heating
The greenhouse gas emissions of heating buildings account for about 30 % of Finland's total emissions.
Saving energy makes a difference
Energy conservation and energy efficiency are often the most economically viable solutions to cut emissions.
